Hi -

OK - this may be a really dumb question, but why must Admin (uid=2) be a member of all groups? Or am I missing something (again)?

The Admin account (or more precisely the Root group, of which Admin is a member) is designed to have access to everything - for administrative purposes, hence the name. It's a bit like the "root" user on a Unix system.

Otherwise, another user could put something on your site to which you, as the site owner, do not have access to. Probably not want you want ...

On some sites, it may make sense to work with a non-Root account most of the time and only log into the Admin account if you really need to. Depends on what you use the site for and how ...

bye, Dirk

Hi Dirk -

Yes, this is actually what I usually do - however the first time I ran into this is when I wanted to create a group of users I could send mail to. When I utilize this group with the built-in 'Mail Users' function, Admin gets an e-Mail whether we like it or not. ;^)

For this reason (and others), I guess I'd like to be able to override the default membership of Admin in any non-Core group. (I'll submit as a feature request).

Thanks!

I don't think it would be a good idea to change Geeklog's behaviour in general.

It does make sense in some places, though. There's already some special handling of Root users when displaying static pages (e.g. so that you can make a "splash screen" static page for your site that's only displayed to anonymous users - the admin would also see it without that special handling there).

So I guess it does make sense to have an option in some clearly defined places, but not on a general level (here is another example).

bye, Dirk
