I was thinking would it not be great if for a site like mine i can map where each story is getting posted from?

May be we can use google earth/maps with some ip lookup thingy?

How would i go about that?

need your thoughts and ideas.

I'd say start here. The Microformat looks like a doable option (maybe with a bit of support from Joe's autotag plugin).

Which leaves the problem of figuring out your current position and how to get it into your post without having to manually transfer it from your GPS device ...

do you have any sample sites?

BTW may be we can go with something less sinister. just provide user with a box to write city, state country?

and pass that on to google?

what do you say.

I still need to digest how the GPS function would work. However i am thinking my users are not that hi-tech so thinking need something that does not require too much technology.

The idea being to represent on map where the story took place.

I did a Google Map on a couple of my sites here is an example using the Google Map API here. In a nutshell you have to create a KLM file (just like a XML file). It uses MySql.
It ends up looking like this http://www.nc-firefighter.com/kml2.php. I update my KML file using a form to enter all the information I want to get from the user. Then it's displayed using an html file containing the Google Map API.

To recap
1. Create the KLM file.
2. Create the input form.
3. Create the Display page.

There's another site that was a big help but I have to find it again. I'll post it when I do.

what if we create a Location tag!!

Then all that will be needed is to translate that into a link to google maps?

What do you guys think?
