I'm thinking of doing a Related Posts Plugin after I finish the next release of the Rating Plugin. It will probably be based on a Word Press plugin. Googles Matt Cutts

Just a crazy idea... Wouldn't it be possible to use the Google search API to do this? Using the site-directive (example) you could get related stuff... I guess the only hard thing is to know what to search for... Story title or some kind of key words?

That's an interesting idea. I have never used Googles Search API so I would have to do some research to see what is possible.

My main goal is to return related stories posts for other stories and staticpages either through the use of a tag in the template or through an autotag.

If I do end up coding this plugin it probably won't be started until the Fall sometime.

That's something I always wanted to explore. Geeklog's current "related" list is really poor and not worthy the name.

If you have any ideas that would require changes in Geeklog, for example new or changed plugin APIs, come over to the geeklog-devel mailing list and we'll talk about it.

Most likely but it would be configurable in the language file anyway, of course Geeklog does refer to stories as articles sometimes.

Does anyone see the need for Related Stories to include comments as well (configurable)?

Regarding the Tag plugin, it would make sense to tie in or even combine the 2 plugins since Related Stories would use the additional information that tags provide. I would have to talk to the two tag plugin authors to see if it could be worked out.

I`d keep the plugin as flexible and independent as possible. It could offer to show related "anything", e.g. anything that can produce autotags plus anything that can be displayed in the "what`s new block" too.

Plus it should have a manual override and some options. Like span of time of the age of the related story, anything with related tags or description.
