I submitted my URL to google, it picked up polls in system as the main page. checked the header "view source" and all looked good. How do I get the bot to pick-up my main index or home page instead of "polls"

The best and fastest way to have Google index your site is to get some other sites linking to your site, and some patience. It might take weeks or months, and you never can be sure that your main page will end up high enough in the rankings to be found, unless you know something about SEO.
