My impression of phpbb3
Well, I've run phpbb3 along side Geeklog for awhile, and I have to say I really haven't gotten much out of it. Initially I removed the phpbb2 bridge and converted to phpbb3 to get all the features of a fully supported forum. Primarily it was to help me set permissions, add moderators to specific categories, properly track abusers and ban/block them in different ways, etc.
But then you also have to deal with the weird template system and page caching. Its hard to integrate it with anything. Its just not as flexible as I hoped it to be.
So I think I might revert back to the GL Forum plugin. As I require features, I'll either request for help or try and do it myself and give the custom code to Blaine for consideration in official releases.
That is all. :twocents:

There were a lot of pros and cons on turias` homepage on Blaine`s forum and phpbb2. As for me I like to have everything in one place like GUS, Badbehavior etc.
If you have a huge forum you may want to look into various systems to compare but usually the dreams are much bigger than reality.
I just started using the forum on one site. I only seem to have few problems especially with internationalisation:

As far as I remember the forum of glfusion is different from the normal forum plugin.

Should the GL forum be able to handle a forum with 13.000 members, and 4000-5000 visits per day?

If I ever get that much membership and traffic, I'll pay for a forum like vBulletin or IPboard and pay someone here to build GL integration.

We're still running phpbb2, and are considering an upgrade to phpbb3, and are also looking for other solutions, since the forum belongs to a site running GL1.51.
