Okay, I had to give up on upgrading, after making a complete mess of things. So I deleted Geeklog entirely and let my web host (using Fantastico) do a clean install. Now I have two Geeklog databases. Can I simply link back to the correct one?

You can link to any database. I just have no clue what "the correct one" is.

If it is a GL 1.4.1 MySQL and the new install is 1.5.1 then it will not work.

It was 1.3 something.

What I was asking is how to change the link to the database I want to use. There are only two...shouldn't be too hard to figure out which one, and I think I know anyway.

But if it won't work because the version is too old...that would make it a moot point.

I don`t know which version you are running now but you need to change this in the config.php if it is GL 1.4.1
$_DB_name
$_DB_user
$_DB_pass

Or change these settings in the configuration panel.

I wonder if fantastico left the install folder or if it deleted it. Normally you`d find it under example.com/admin/install/install.php You may try to run it to update your old MySQL.

Thanks...I ended up giving up and hand-copying the data from one database to the other. Not the fast way, but it worked.

O.k., if you just started your website it may be the fastest way. In the long term it is also interesting to understand GL a bit more and add another theme or plugin.
