Similar situation in that the admin path is listed incorrectly and unable to correct even when on the server. Current path to admin directory is http://localhost/admin....from the server I am able to access localhost and therefore can access the gui in the configuration page. When I go to change the admin directory to http://www.sitename/admin it doesn't write it but when the page refreshes it goes back to http://localhost/admin?

You'll either have to fix it in the database (see over here) or you could remove the {site_admin_url} variable from the admin/config/configuration.thtml configuration file. I.e. replace it with the proper URL. Then you should be able to save the updated information.

There appears to be a bigger issue, can't change any additional config information, i.e. admin password, etc. Not sure where to begin...

Do you mean you go to "My Account" and can't change your password there? If so, what happens when you try?

It just doesn't accept any of the manually entered information as if it were write-protected.
