Hello everybody,

purepro is an online theme maker for geeklog and it is now in beta.

You can try it on geeklog.fr Sign on, create your theme online and download it. After download, deflate the archive and just rename the layout/purepro/css/geeklog.fr folder to layout/purepro/css/yoursite.tld. Upload to your site the purepro folder and enjoy!

Today, beta version allow you to make thousands themes for geeklog 1.6.0sr2. Next week I will try to update the theme maker for geeklog 1.6.1

Thanks for any feedback.

Hi. Your theme looks really good. However, I have only been able to use the download link in the theme maker once.

Now, every time I try. it says:

Unfortunately, an error has occurred rendering this page. Please try again later.

Cheers.

Hello aaneiros,

Thank you for the feedback and sorry for this.
You can now download again 1000 themes or 10000 themes Smile

New feature : You can now choose text or image logo.

If you want your own image logo, just replace in the theme folder /layout/purepro/styles/logo/logo_geeklog.fr.png by /layout/purepro/styles/logo/logo_yoursite.tld.png

Working on a coming feature. Resize elements on the fly like the main container, the header, the footer...

The demo for the beta release is now close. Thanks :shakehands: for feedback from those who test "The ultimate Theme Maker system" Wink

Next release will bring two major improvements:
- resizing and moving some template elements. You can see a preview here.
- Save the theme a user created to allow future modifications and to support template upgrade.

Will Purepro themes always be just a download option for users or can the plugin be installed on a users website and then they can modify their default theme in realtime?

Just a thought, but isn't some of the code for Pure Pro based on Chameleon from the folks over at glFusion.org? If so, I recall that Chameleon was released under a GPL v2 license, so according to that license, you really shouldn't be charging for access to PurePro, correct?

I can understand charging for something like support, but charging for the product is a big no no. Remember the whole fiasco with NexTide?

If there is some open source included in Pure Pro: I agree!

I remember that I actually made a fuss about the IMHO very commercial frontpage article on this site, but Nextide is also only charging for support, the files were always open source.

Yes Purepro is based on Mark R. Evans work and on original COM_siteHeader() and COM_siteFooter() Geeklog functions released under GNU General Public License.

Frequently Asked Questions about the GNU Licenses

8) Does the GPL allow me to sell copies of the program for money?

Yes, the GPL allows everyone to do this. The right to sell copies is part of the definition of free software. Except in one special situation, there is no limit on what price you can charge. (The one exception is the required written offer to provide source code that must accompany binary-only release.)

8) Does the GPL allow me to charge a fee for downloading the program from my site?

Yes. You can charge any fee you wish for distributing a copy of the program. If you distribute binaries by download, you must provide “equivalent access” to download the source—therefore, the fee to download source may not be greater than the fee to download the binary.

I do not really see any issue here.

You should quote the next two bullets from the GPL FAQ

Smile Does the GPL allow me to require that anyone who receives the software must pay me a fee and/or notify me?

No. In fact, a requirement like that would make the program non-free. If people have to pay when they get a copy of a program, or if they have to notify anyone in particular, then the program is not free. See the definition of free software.

The GPL is a free software license, and therefore it permits people to use and even redistribute the software without being required to pay anyone a fee for doing so.

Smile If I distribute GPL'd software for a fee, am I required to also make it available to the public without a charge?

No. However, if someone pays your fee and gets a copy, the GPL gives them the freedom to release it to the public, with or without a fee. For example, someone could pay your fee, and then put her copy on a web site for the general public.

You're right, no problem Smile

Exactly. There is no problem with Ben's plan. Or do you disagree?

To install this theme rename the localhost folder to yoursite.tld, where yoursite.tld would be geeklog.fr if you install this theme on geeklog.fr. Then ftp this folder to your purepro/css/ layout folder.
