Hi all,

I'm about to dive in big time to my geeklog project. GL is my backbone, now I need to give my users the option to have their own album on my site. I'm about to install Gallery2.... as it seems to be the plugin that is most popular for that sort of thing. Though doing a quick search shows me gallery2 was very popular a few years ago, but not much has been said about it recently. Am I missing something? Has a better image album plugin come along that I have missed?

What do ya'll think is the best option to give my users their own gallery?
Is it Gallery2?
If not, what is better?

I thank you for your time and effort in advance.
Peace in the Middle East,

jj

Hello Jason,
I maintain the Geeklog<->Gallery2 Bridge.
Gallery2 is still by far the most powerful open source gallery software available.
Development on G2 has completed save a few of us continuing to extend its capabilities.

Gallery3 is nearing release, but there won't be an external API for the first release cycle.

I can offer you any support you may need.

Be aware that the server requirements for any of the gallery solutions is fairly high.
48MB Ram, a graphics toolkit like imagemagick/netpbm and for video ffmpeg.

Hey suprsidr,

SOLD.
That's all I needed to hear.
I didn't think there was anything better out there, I just wanted to be sure.
I have 'shut down' at the lab I work at over Christmas, I intend to dig deep and integrate gallery2 into my GL site.
I may need to pick your brain as I try to tweak my installation a bit.

I think my server can handle the 48mb, I'll have to install the graphics toolkits...

Thanks for the speedy reply.

Happy Holidays,

jasonjones
