Am I missing something?
My GUS "plugin" is disabled. I used quotes because I didn't install the plugin with 1.7.1 so its
reference on my site must be stuck in the db.
The 1.7.1 archive doesn't have it.
If I can't have it, I'd just assume delete any reference to it on my site.
Clean upgrade to 1.7.1 with Professional theme.
Thanks!

So, are the GUS files still in place? It sounds like you removed all the files and then uploaded the 1.7.1 tarball. Since GUS is not a core plugin, you will have to put its files back into place after that.

But he said that the plugin was disabled. Should it still need the files?

The fact that the plugin was installed is stored in the database. When, during an upgrade, the plugin files can't be found, Geeklog will set that entry to "disabled" (and you can't re-enable it until you put the files back). I guess that's what happened here.
