Hi,
My geeklog installation has been working fine until some few months back, my hosts took it offline, stating it has overwhelmed their servers. They made me purchase a new hosting account and it is still crashing or server unavailable.
I have been noticing certain spam registrations, as I manually approve registrations and comments. what is causing these repeated server down errors.
Below is the hosts message "Your site was not previously disabled for going over bandwidth. It was disabled for server resource usage problems. The addon or primary domain bandwidth was not part of the issue."
Thanks. Confused

Can you check your logs directory (in the root of your geeklog website directory) and report what the last few errors are in the error.log file?

Also if you are going over your bandwidth (and not because of good traffic) you may want to try the Bad Behavior2 plugin. 920

Hi Laugh and IronMax, Thanks for your response. The site is now back up, but as mentioned I will look into the Bad Behavior plugin. I see a lot of attempts to change admin password and so forth. Laugh, I am sending you a PM to view the logs as it contains certain user emails.

Looking at the logs I see no real evidence of it crashing. Have you actually seen your server down or is this your hosting company telling you this?

Sometimes when you search the site or navigate to it, it gives a site down 404 error. The website will Not be available till I contact the hosting company and, then say "you overshot your bandwidth or overwhelmed the server, so We took it down". I am considering moving service to a reliable host, but did not want to loose registered members or anything on the site.
Thanks.

There is no reason your smaller site would overwhelm your server or bandwidth unless you had a bot attack or something which I didn't see any indications of.

I would change hosting providers.

You can make a db backup; visit yoursite/admin/database.php then install a fresh geeklog with same version on your new host and import your backup under phpmyadmin.

Thanks Light, Ben and IronMax for your responses.
Like Ben mentioned I needed to look in my hosting and would make the switch to a new host ASAP, preferably one with Geeklog use and hosting experience.

Most of the problems I read about involved the dreaded CTD (Crash To Desktop).

Okay, On the repeated crashing the site crashed again though only admin and two other users were online. These two or so users seem to be always online,
I have also realized a certain user is Using the admin info and admin email as it's username and email. I guess the only thing this "bot" or user is missing is my correct password to take over the site. How do I stop this. i I ban the email, then I am banning myself- right?
Thanks.
