My plugin supports 3 categories: new posts, first-time users, last messages.
The API only supports one headline and below that only one hierarchy level list.
Because of the use of a generic template, this is almost a 'hardcoded' feature.
Is this a bridge too far for GL or can this become a feature?
Note: a solution might be found in adding dumb plugins with only 'whatsnew' activated.

Your other option at the moment is to combine your 3 categories. Not ideal though...
You can add a feature request for it on GitHub. It wouldn't be to hard to allow plugins to have the option to add separate what's new items.
